Claus was united in marriage in Germany with Margaretha Dorothea Batjer; daughter of Hinrich Philip Batjer and Wiebke Margaretha Marx.
Margaretha and Claus were the parents of 5 children:
1. Wiebke "Mary" born 1844 married Hans F. Asmus
2. John H. born 1845 married Margaret Severin
3. Anna "Annie" Margaretha born 1848 married Jacob Severin
4. Frederick "Fred" Claus born 1849 married Mary Grunert
5. Henry born 1851 married Katherine W Severin
The Tiedjens family left Hamburg 15 May 1852 sailing on the ship Enterprise under Captain Tindle. The father's occupation was listed as an Arbeiter which means laborer in English. They arrived in Quebec and from there made their way to the New Holstein area in Calumet County, Wisconsin.
Margaretha passed away that same year in 1852 at the age of 30 years. It is assumed she was buried at the New Holstein City Cemetery in New Holstein in Calumet County, Wisconsin where the family had settled.
On 20 Aug 1856 Claus was united in marriage with Friederike Koppen, widow of J.C. Koppen and mother of five children. They made their home in New Holstein.
Another child was added to this blended family: Henrietta "Etta" born 1857.
On 15 May 1875 the Claus Tiedjens home was destroyed by fire. Cause of the fire was unknown. Loss nearly covered by insurance (as reported in The Manitowoc, WI newspaper 20 May 1875, Thu., Page 4)
Friederike passed away 06 Nov 1875 in New Holstein, Calumet County, Wisconsin at the age of 56 years. She was laid to rest in New Holstein City Cemetery in New Holstein, Calumet County, Wisconsin.
Claus, age 73, passed away from heart disease 09 Feb 1893 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Annie (Tiedjens) Severn, with whom he had made his home. He was laid to rest in the New Holstein City Cemetery.

Died—Claus Tiedjens died of heart disease last Wednesday at the age of 72. He was living with his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Severin.
