Mrs. Goodchild had been employed by the Augusta Mental Health Institute for 17 years and was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Augusta. Mrs. Goodchild enjoyed eating, traveling and playing the slot machines.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Merrill; her second husband, Wilfred Goodchild; four grandchildren; and a stepdaughter, Connie Blaisdell.
Mrs. Goodchild is survived by three sons, Richard Merrill and his companion, Deloris, of China, Frank Merrill Jr. and his wife, Lauretta, of Eddington, and Ronald Merrill and his wife, Sue, of Schaumburg, Ill.; two daughters, Carline Byrne and her husband, William, of Pittston, and Priscilla Rideout and her husband, Kenneth Rideout Sr., of Sidney; a stepdaughter, Alvine Watson, of Hallowell; two brothers, Gerald and Clifford Ayotte, both of Augusta; a sister, Germaine Parlin, of Augusta; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 9/3/2008)
