Bernice Beckstead, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 21, 2009 at The Wentworth at Draper Assisted Living Center in Draper, UT at the age of 90.
Born to Amelia Norgaard Jensen and Frank Atkinson in Salt Lake City, Utah and was raised in Taylorsville.
She was the eighth of nine children. They remained best friends their entire lives. Graduated from Granite High School. Bernice married Grant Beckstead on July 23, 1938; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They raised two daughters, Joni and Maurine.
Bernice was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many callings. She had many athletic interests, especially swimming, bowling, softball, and golfing.
She especially loved being a member of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Sweet Adelines where she made many lasting friendships. Bernice was a loving wife and mother and was always an example of what a dedicated and loyal friend should be. She will be remembered as our sweet angel.
Survived by daughters, Joni Masterson; Maurine Christopherson, (Hal); nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband (Grant); son-in-law, George Masterson; parents; and eight siblings.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in the Corner Canyon Stake Center, 13366 South 1300 East, Draper, Utah. A viewing will be held on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, and again on Tuesday at the Church from 10:15-11:15 a.m.
Interment: Draper City Cemetery.
