Sophie is daughter of Johann Heinrich Merz (who was born 4 Jun 1816 in Kemmenau, Nassau). He and her mother Anna married 1840 at Ems, Nassau (now Bad Ems), and immigrated to Texas in the late 1840's. The death and grave of Johann Heinrich is unknown at this time, but is likely to also be an unmarked grave in the New Braunfels Cemetery.
