Roy's birth mother was Nina Rowe (later Drayton).

Nina was also the birth mother of Roy's brother Claudie Nix.

Roy and Claudie had a half sister, Lula Bell Wilder Owens, and half brothers William Alvin Wilder Sr., Vernis Vee Wilder, and James Grady Wilder Sr., children of Nina's sister Ellie Rowe.

The father of all of these children was William James Wilder, a fireman for Seaboard Air Line Railroad out of Andrews, SC. He may have been born 10 Feb 1892 (WW I Draft Registration Card) and may have died 6 Jan 1931 in Elloree, Orangebug County, SC (Death Certificate #001114). The death certificate is sketchy and has middle initial M. The deceased was buried "near Andrews."
