The remains were brought to the home of his daughter, Mrs. John McCloy in Winnfield, from where services were conducted Wednesday afternoon. The last rites were held at the Atlanta church with Dr. B. C. Land, recent pastor of the Winnfield Baptist Church, in charge. He was assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church and Rev. G. A. Morgan, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Atlanta Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Rev. J. W. Buckner of Jonesboro conducted the prayer prior to the funeral.
Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: D. A. Martin of Marshall, Texas; Neal McElroy and Wiley Corley of Ringgold; Gus Gresham of Atlanta, Webb Sutton of Alexandria, and Howard Parham of Winnfield.
Mr. McElroy was one of the more substantial farmers of Winn Parish. Born September 29, 1866 in Bienville Parish, he came to this section and settled near Atlanta some forty years ago, where he has reared and educated his family. His wife was the former Miss Ida Webb. He was active in promoting the educational interests of his community and served as a member of the Atlanta School Board and also as its president.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Webb McElroy of Atlanta; and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Ambrose Davis, Alco, La.; Guy McElroy, Atlanta, La.; Mrs. Stephens Juneau, Alexandria; Mrs. Ben Reinking, Chicago; Mrs. Lunsford Bates, North Little Rock, Ark.; Ms. John McCloy, Winnfield, and Ardis McElroy, Jonesboro.
