Ruby had attended a family reunion and spent the night with Virginia Fox and family, a cousin. When the others awoke next morning, Ruby Belle was found in a fetal position and her skin was spotted and purple. They took her to the doctor and, since measles was going around, he treated her for the measles. She died of ptomaine poisoning and when the family questioned the doctor why she got sick and not them, the doctor said it had to do with the shape her stomach was in.
