Thomas Finlayson was the patriarch of the Finlayson family in Bristol (Yorkville), IL. Per the OPR's In Perthshire, Scotland, "Born Thomas, lawful son of Thomas Finlayson, Mason in Dumbuils and Elizabeth Hally, his wife." He was baptised at Craigend. He was at the time of his marriage in 1820 a soldier in the Royal Perthshire Militia. He married Isabella Ronaldson July 27, 1820. They had five children born in Scotland: William; Thomas; Ann; Isabella (married Rice Reddock in 1857); and Jean. Thomas became a farmer of 8 acres in Abdie Parish in Fife, Scotland. He emigrated with his wife Isabella to America, probably in the early 1850's. A son James Finlayson, was born about 1853 and died the same year as his mother, Isabella, in 1855. Thomas became a successfull farmer in Bristol, IL, (owning 94 acres, house and lot in Bristol that was valued at about $8,000.). His son William (and his family) emigrated to the same region in 1856. Thomas was a widower for two years. In 1857 he married Rebecca Sanders. He died in 1891 at the age of 93.
