Mr. James Darling Walker, 85, died Sunday morning (May 8, 2011) at Hospice Satilla House after an extended illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. He served in the United States Army/Air Force Calvary and Infantry during World War II. He retired from Seaboard Coastline as a car man in the car department. He was also a member of Jamestown Baptist Church.
He is the son of the late E. T. Walker and Sinia Griffin Walker. He is preceded in death by one grandson, Clyde McVeigh.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Bennett Walker of Waycross; four daughters, Gloria McVeigh Cribb Saylor (husband Jim) of Waycross, Toni Fleming (husband Joe) of Waycross, Pam Smith (husband Eddie) of Blackshear, and Brenda Middleton of Blackshear; two sons, David Walker (wife Margie) of St. Mary's, and Mikie Walker (wife Shirley) of Waycross; five sisters, Vida Wilkerson of Waycross, Louise Baxter of Waycross, Para Moon of Atlanta, Patsy Bunch of St. Augustine, FL, and Janice Bryant of Waycross; three brothers, Bobby Walker of St. Mary's, Jackie Walker of Waycross, and Billy Walker of Blackshear; 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday (May 10, 2011) at Jamestown Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Music Funeral Home.
