According to military records, the headstone for Davidson was placed by the government in 1934. When he enlisted on April 22, 1861; in the 12th Regiment, B Company of the Illinois Infantry at Mandota, during our Civil War, he gave his name as David (as he was well known). Military documents obtained through our National Archives, shows his first name as Davidson and that he was given an Honorable Medical Discharge. He served May 2, 1861 until August 1, 1861. (Although he used the name, David, he was given his Mother's maiden name, Davidson, at birth, as his legal first name.)
