Obituary - Alta May Kennington McCombs of Sandy, Utah returned to her heavenly home on March 19, 2008.
She was born to Joseph Hyrum Kennington and Sarah Jane Walton on May 6, 1911 in Pocatello, Idaho and grew up in Auburn, Star Valley, Wyoming.
She married John McCombs on September 10, 1935 in the Logan Temple. He died July 8, 1965.
Alta graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors of Science in Education. She taught school in Wyoming, California, Idaho and Utah. Alta was a woman of faith, integrity and virtue.
Foremost in her life was the love of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She bore a strong testimony to its truthfulness and was steadfast in living its principles, setting a wonderful example for her posterity to follow. She loved her family very much and was concerned about their happiness and well being.
She served in all the auxiliaries of the LDS Church and spent many hours serving in the temple and serving others. She served a mission in South Carolina as an older single sister. She wrote poetry throughout her life and started painting pictures in her eighties.
She is survived by her children, Dixie (Ivan) Henderson, Gordon (RaDene) McCombs, nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one brother, Lloyd Kennington.
The family wishes to thank First Choice Hospice. Their compassion in caring for Alta and their kindness in supporting her family during this difficult time is greatly appreciated. They would especially like to thank Hyrum.
A viewing will be held Monday, March 24th at 10 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Smithfield, Utah Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
