NORTH SALT LAKE - Lester Gordon Kennington, 87, passed away Thursday July 5, 2007 at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He was born November 25, 1919 in Auburn Wyoming, a son of Joseph Hyrum and Sarah Jane Walton Kennington. His early years were spent in Auburn, graduating from Star Valley High School and attending Utah State University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. Upon returning, he married Mary Eleanore Miller on October 12, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with six children. They made their home and raised their children in North Salt Lake, Utah. He worked at Caribou Oil in Woods Cross. Lester served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a leader of young men, on the High Council, as Bishop, a temple ordinance worker, and served a mission with his wife as director of the visitor's center at Winter Quarters, Nebraska. He enjoyed hard work and giving service to others. He was friendly, kind and loving, especially to his family.
He is survived by his dear wife and three children and their spouses, Kathy and Collin Wood, Centerville; Saundra and Corey Dinsdale, Harrisville; Robert and Bonnie Kennington, Kaysville; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and by his brother Lloyd and sister Alta.
He was preceded in death by his sons Kirk and Jay, a daughter Susan K. Crowther, and seven siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 No. 400 E., where friends may call Sunday, July 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, July 9 from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Interment will be in Auburn Wyoming on Tuesday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m.
