Funeral services for William Thomas Barton, 91, of Gilbert, were held at Turkey Creek Baptist Church on Thursday, July 30, 2009 with Bro. Dale Goodman and Bro. Virgil Harris officiating.

Interment followed at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.

Mr. Barton was born May 9, 1918 and passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. He was a resident of Gilbert, an iron worker, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Gilbert. He loved to play the guitar and enjoyed using his talent by playing at the Turkey Creek Baptist Church.
He served in the US Army during WWII.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary (Blackwell) Barton; father, John Early Barton; mother, Anna (Collins) Barton; three brothers: Morgan Barton, Elmer Barton, and Johnnie Barton; two sisters: Iva Flowers and Ida McLaughlin.

Survivors include three sons: Don Barton and wife Dannie Sue; Danny Joe Barton and wife Wanda, all of Gilbert; Thomas Dale Barton and wife Candy of Jena. He was also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Leslie Michael McCoy, Brad Barton, Travis Barton, Tuson Barton, Jarrett Barton, and great-grandson, Jordon Barton.

Honorary Pallbearer was grandson, Jason Barton.
