Roy William Caviness Sr., 73, of Vinton, Va., has gone to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 6, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Savannah Shockley Caviness; brother, Robert Caviness; and sister, Myrtle Caviness. He was the founder of Caviness Welding, Inc., serving the Roanoke Valley for 43 years and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served the United States Naval Air Force where he served as Naval Aviation Service Mate. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and Nascar racing. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Beverly Beveridge Caviness; three children and a daughter-in-law, Robin Caviness Kelley, Vinton, Rebecca Dawn Caviness, Roanoke, and Roy W. Jr. and Laura Hobbie Caviness, Roanoke County; two sons-inlaw, Bobby Kelley and Steve Smith; six grandchildren, Ashley Kelley, Kristen Kelley, Morgan Smith, William Ryan Caviness, Mariah Caviness and Patrick Caviness; one greatgrandchild, Kierstin Kelley; brothers, Homer Caviness, Galax, Otis Caviness, Martinsville, and Joe Caviness, Galax; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Dr. Fintel, Good Samaritan Hospice and the Veterans Hospital. Also, thank you to all the special friends who were very supportive to Roy and his family. The family suggests memorials be made to the or to Good Samaritan Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
