Otis James Caviness, 83, of Patrick Springs, VA passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 26, 1933 to the late Savannah Shockley Caviness and Frank Caviness.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Barbour Caviness; one sister, and three brothers.

Mr. Caviness served in the United States Army and saw battle during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Salem United Methodist Church and was involved in the Men’s Sunday school, the Men’s Emmaus Group and the Salem United Methodist Church Fisherman’s Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard and traveling.

Mr. Caviness owned and operated Caviness Trucking, Inc. until his retirement.

He is survived by a daughter, Teresa Gail Caviness of Richmond, VA; sons: Ronald James Caviness and wife Pana of Patrick Springs, VA and Christopher Lee Caviness of Patrick Springs, VA; and three grandchildren: Samantha Caviness, Brooklynn Caviness, and Nicholas Caviness.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Stuart Chapel.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church with Pastor John Franklin officiating. Burial will follow the service at Critz Baptist Church Cemetery.
