Homer Jackson Caviness, Sr., 79 of Galax, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Caviness was born in Virginia to the late Frank and Savanah Shockley Caviness.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Betty Caviness; brothers Roy Caviness, Sr. and Robert Caviness; and sister Myrtle Caviness.
He is survived by his daughters & son-in-law Kathy Caviness of Woodlawn and Frances & Abel Ruiz of Raleigh, NC; sons & daughters-in-law Homer J. Caviness, Jr. & wife Lisa of Raleigh, NC, Delbert Caviness of Galax, and Dean & Libby Caviness of Nashville, NC; brothers Otis Caviness of Stuart and Joe Caviness of Galax; and eleven grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. James Witten and Rev. Ron Fredericks officiating. Burial will follow in the Parnell Cemetery.
Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
