William C. Lindsay III

William C. Lindsay III passed away at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

His funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Grace Episcopal Church, Pontiac, with Reverend Norma Barr officiating. Burial followed the service at Lexington Cemetery, Lexington. Visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, and on Saturday morning for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bill was born on June 2, 1927, in Lexington, the son of William C. Lindsay Jr. and Kathryn Flesher Lindsay.

He is survived by his sister, Mildred Lindsay (Richard) Sharp, Birmingham, Ala.; his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Jean Ehrhardt Lindsay, whom he married on June 4, 1950, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Chenoa; and his children, Susan Tiboris Church, Cherry Hill, N.J.: William C. (Suzanne) Lindsay IV, Grayslake; Tadd (Michele) Lindsay, Wheaton. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Peter Tiboris, New York, N.Y.; Stephanie Tiboris, Montclair, N.J.; William V. and Jill Lindsay, Grayslake; and Tadd Jr., Meagan, and Hannah Lindsay, Wheaton. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was a 1945 graduate of Lexington Community High School and went on to graduate from the University of Illinois School of Commerce in 1950. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corps V5 pilot training program during World War II.

His first employment after college was with General Motors. In 1958, Bill joined the Trane Company as a manager of several different product developments. He next joined Coca-Cola as vice president and part of a new venture to manufacture water desalination plants. Following that, he became president and part owner of Environmental Control System in Plymouth, Minn.

Bill retired from manufacturing during the mid-70's, entering the financial services industry as a pension financial consultant for Bache and Company, which ultimately became Prudential Securities.

In 1995, he became a registered principal of Raymond James Financial and opened offices in Bloomington and Pontiac. He was active in the Pontiac office until his death.

Bill served as a board member of the OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center Hospital Foundation. He was past president of Kiwanis in Pontiac. Bill was an active member of the Episcopal Church, serving on several vestries, including, most recently, that of Grace Church in Pontiac. He was a founder and past president of the Chicago chapter of Episcopalians United, and also served as member and past president of the Grace Episcopal Church Foundation.

Memorial donations in honor of Mr. Lindsay may be given to the Grace Episcopal Church Foundation, Grace Church, Pontiac.
