According to the 208th Pennsylvania company F register, Daniel Wilt was born in York County, Pennsylvania, and there still are a lot of Wilts in the Dover area. He apparently lived in Perry County at the time of his enlistment into the army, but I have not located him on either the 1850 or 1860 censuses. He was the son of Michael & Regina (Behler) Wilt. The 1870 census shows a Regina Wilt, age 75, living with the Abraham Gish family in Strinestown, Conewago Township, York County. Whether or not this is Daniel's mother I cannot say. Regina was not that common a name in this area. Daniel married Melinda Jane Kern c. 1860 in Perry County and fathered John Russell (b. 09/02/61), Samuel Kern (b. 03/10/63), Anna Mary (b. 05/24/66), Reuben Lawrence (b. 04/26/68), Susan Salome (b. 03/10/71), Julia Grace (b. 12/26/73), Roy James (b. 11/06/75), Fanny (b. 03/??/77), and Irwin Blaine (b. 08/04/79). A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg September 2, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 5 as a private with Co. F, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865. Sometime in the 1870s, he moved his family to Shawnee County, Kansas.
