Philip Finley McQuillan, born in Shortsville,
New York was the youngest son of John McQuillan and Sarah Gavin McQuillan.


On November 21, 1898, Philip Finley McQuillan, at age 19 enlisted in the Army of The United States for a three term of enlistment. After his initial training he was assigned to the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a telegraph operator.

During the Philippines - American War 1899-1902.Philip was assigned to Company L., 13th Infantry, Managaldan, Pangasinan Province, Philippine Islands, Military and Naval Forces. His unit took part in the following engagements: Skirmish near telegraph hill, Guadalupe Ridge, June 10, 1899, Engagement at Cavite, Philippines October 8, 1899, Noveleta, Philippines same date, San Francisco de Malabon, Philippines (now General Trias) October 10, 1899, the landing of General Loyd Wheaton's Expeditionary Brigade and other battles in and around Cavite Province, Philip was awarded the Philippine Campaign badge # 13440 for his service.

Philip Finley McQuillan continued his service in the Army of the United States until he retired as a MSGT on May 24, 1922. He served 10 years, 1 month and 22 days of foreign service, ( Territory of Alaska ) Duty assignments in the Philippines and Alaska during this period in history counted as double time.


Married on August 08, 1904 Juneau, Alaska. To Gladys Blanche Nichols.
Daughter of John E. Nichols and Nellie Grace Roberts. She is the daughter of Helen Lucinda Dean and Thomas Roberts. Married 1885, Wisconsin


Family bible says father of twelve children but we have accounted for ten.
