Grandaughter of Laurence McQuillan and Margaret Kirwin both from County Lough, North Ireland.

Daughter of John McQuillan, born 1840 in County Louth, Northern Ireland. and wife Sarah Gavin, born 1843 Northern Ireland.


Settled in:
Shortsville, Manchester, Ontario County, New York. Upon arrival he filed his naturalization papers in Ontario County in 1968. Worked at a paper mill in Shortsville, New York.

Younger sister to Margaret " Maggie," McQuillan, born 1865 in Ireland. Came to United States together with her parents boarded the Ship S.S. Queen in 1866. Sailing from Liverpool, England. Arriving Port of New York on August 23, 1866. Place of Origin Ireland.

Younger sister to James McQuillan, born November 1866. James was the first of John McQuillan's children to be born a U.S. citizen.

Sister to John Edward McQuillan. born 1868.

Sister to Lawrence McQuillan. was born October 1869.

John and Sarah McQuillan have lost three children daughter Margaret " Maggie," born 1865 Ireland. Son Lawrence, was born October 1869. And daughter Mary born May 1873. Died within a few years by drowning in the paper mill race at Shortsville Ontario County, New York. The last one on February 07, 1877. Strange to say were nearly of the same age under seven years drowned within one rod of the same spot bodies recovered about the same time of day we regret.

Quote: " Three children of John and Sarah Gavin Mcquillan, " were playing near the banks of the race, slipped over the bank into the channel water was out of the race when the ice had been cut through. Mary, was the third child lost in this race within the space of five years. All fell into the water within five rods along the bank behind their residence. Daughter Margaret " Maggie," born 1865. Son Lawrence, born October 1869. Were the other children refered by this article.

Fell Drowned Lawrence McQuillan. was born October 1869. Young son of John Mcquillan, and Sarah Gavin McQuillan, was drowed at Shortsville Ontario County, New York. On Tuesday of last week ( June 30, 1874 ) He was fishing in the paper company's mill race behind the family residence and fell into the water and drowned. Daughter Margaret " Maggie, " of John and Sarah McQuillan was drowned in the same way about two years ago. The funeral of the little boy was held on July 07, 1874. His remains brought to Canandaigua for burial.
