GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Alva L. "Polly" Welch, 74, of Greenville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Aug. 1, 2009, at her home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.
Mrs. Welch was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Vaiden to Wilburn and Alva Bell Alford. She grew up in Vaiden where she attended school. She has been a resident of Greenville since 1952. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Alva Bell Alford; her son, Stephen "Stevie" Welch; and her husband, Dewitt Welch.
She is survived by two daughters, Melissa Gayle Welch of Greenville, and Connie Shannon and her husband, Charles, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; two sons, Marty Welch of Vaiden and Dewey Welch and his wife, Linda, of Greenville; three brothers, James (Phyllis) Alford of Vaiden, Jerry (Kathy) Alford of Vaiden, and Walter (Paula) Alford of Kilmichael; three sisters, Nell Fielder of Winona, Mary Welch of Vaiden and Lillian (Ronnie) Hunsinger of Leeds, Ala.; four grandchildren, Shana (Jeff) Foster, Brandon Welch, Christopher Welch and Megan Shannon; and two great-grandchildren, Grayson Foster and Dawson Foster.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.
The Rev. Ronny Spivey will officiate the services.
