A graveside service for Mr. James "Son" Murry Alford of Vaiden will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, at Vaiden Cemetery in Vaiden, with Dr. Finis Beauchamp officiating. Pallbearers will be Danny Fielder, Dillon Lambert, Justin Lambert, Joey Welch, Ricky Welch, Patrick Alford, Zack Alford, Joshua Braswell, and Adam Coleman.

Mr. Alford, 83, passed away at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona on Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was born in Carroll County on January 7, 1937, to Wilburn and Alva Bell Stewart Alford. He was a retired teacher and former Superintendent of Education for Carroll County. He served on the Holmes Community College Board for almost 40 years, was a longtime Carroll County Farm Bureau Director, a former Lions Club member, and also served on the Vaiden Cemetery Board. Mr. Alford enjoyed all his granddaughter's activities, woodworking, and gardening; and loved sharing and spending time with others, especially his family. He was a member of Vaiden United Methodist Church.

Mr. Alford is survived by his wife, Phyllis Braswell Alford of Vaiden; his daughter, Kristen Alford Kotecki of Winona; granddaughter, Murry Catherine Alderman of Winona; his sister, Lillian Hunsinger of Leeds, Alabama; brother, Walter Alford of Winona; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Alva Bell Stewart Alford; sisters, Nell Fielder, Mary Lynn Welch, and Polly Welch; and a brother, Jerry Alford.
