George Thomas Hake was the son of Robert Henry Hake and Amelia R. Fry Hake. He was the maternal grandson of John Michael Fry and Olive Lossey Fry. His paternal grandparents were Elias Hake and Nancy Ann Coburn. His paternal great grandparents were George Hake and Hannah Sowers Hake. The father of George Hake and great great grandfather of George Thomas Hake was Christian Hake who was born in about 1759 and died in 1824.

George married Dora Belle Bishop on 1 June 1910 at Galena, Jo Daviess County, Illinois. Dora Belle was born on 13 April 1890, in Carroll County, Illinois and died on 23 May 1965, in Platteville, Grant County, Wisconsin.
