Billy Edward "Bill" Abernathy was a son of Noah "Lee" Abernathy and Annie "Blanche" Lewis Abernathy of Lincoln Co., NC. He was married on 9/14/1957 to Bessie Saunders Abernathy (b. 2/25/1935). They made their home at 3304 Mack Ballard Road in Maiden, NC. They were parents of a son Terry D. Abernathy (wife Karen), Lincolnton, NC.
Billy retired from United Electric Meter Services after 45 years. He traveled the southeast performing meter testing and making many friends along the way. He also served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Billy was survived by his wife, Bessie Saunders Abernathy; his son, Terry Abernathy D. Abernathy and wife, Karen, a granddaughter, Callie Grace Abernathy, Lincolnton, NC, and by two sisters, Alda Lee Abernathy Hoover, Vale, NC, and Sarah Abernathy Lenox, Lincolnton, NC.
His siblings were:
1. Farrell Abernathy 10/30/1916 - 6/29/1968. He never married;
2. Ruth Abernathy 5/6/1918 - 5/12/1987 (m. Robert Sam Haynes) bur at Reepsville Bap Ch Cem., Lincoln Co., NC;
3. Henry Clyde Abernathy 10/30/1919 - 7/4/1970 (m. Selma White);
4. Wilford Wayne Abernathy 3/21/1922 - 10/12/1980 (m. Edith Violet Mitchem);
