DR. E. H. SMITH

A brother of the late Judge Felix Smith of San Antonio, raised principally in Gonzales county, removed to Victoria in 1858, and opened a plantation on the west side of the river, some three miles from town. Dr. Smith was united in marriage with Miss Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. Johnson Rossell about the year 1859. He served through the war as a member of Willis' battalion, formerly an adjunct of Waul's legion, but, latterly of the division of Gen. Forrest. After the war he practiced medicine in co-partnership with Dr. J. P. B. January; and at present is engaged with the management of his farming interests. Dr. Smith is one of those rare men who regard their verbal promise as binding as an executed bond.
