Died on the 9th of January, at her residence 10 miles above Gonzales, Mrs. Margaret Renfro in the 61th year of her age,. She was a daughter of the late Captain W. D. Smith.Was born March 20, 1830, in Sabine county, Texas. In 1886 the family were living in Chambers county, only a short distance from San Jacinto battle ground, and although young, she participated in and remembered many of the harrowing scenes and incidents of the memorable runaway time when the early settlers were fleeing before the devastating hordes of Sants Anna. She was an affectionate mother, an earnest true friend to those she loved, and true firm faith in our Lord Master made her not afraid to die and enter into His rest.
