PRINCEVILLE - Lucile J. Mendenhall, 89, of rural Princeville died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Toulon Health Care Center in Toulon.

She was born July 26, 1912, in rural Princeville, Peoria County, to Lester O. and Cora J. Distler Mendenhall.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

She graduated with a teaching certificate from Peoria Normal School and took extension classes at Bradley University in Peoria.

A member of the Peoria Retired Teachers Association, she taught in one-room schools in Peoria County for three years, first teaching at Henry School and then at Hazel Dell. She later taught for Peoria Public Schools District 150 for 29 years, retiring to operate a small dairy farm for 10 to 12 years.

She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap, the Friendly Circle Club and the Jubilee Needle Circle.

She had served as a trustee on the Dickison Cemetery Board in rural Dunlap for many years.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dickison Cemetery. The Rev. Mary Kathryn Pearce will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church, the Children's Home in Peoria or to the Salvation Army.
