Lester O. Mendenhall, 76, brother of Gilbert, Martha and Inez Mendenhall, passed away at his home five miles south of Princeville in Jubilee township Tuesday afternoon, September 3, following a prolonged illness. He has been in a serious condition and was bedfast since last January. During all the time of his illness he was cared for home by his wife and daughters.
Lester Otis Mendenhall died in his sleep early Tuesday evening at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 6 days. He was the son of Craft and Almeda Selders Mendenhall, born in Radnor township, Peoria county, on December 28, 1869 and spent his entire life in this community.
As a young man he began the operation of a steam threshing equipment and continued this kind of work more than 30 years. Later he was engaged entirely in farming.
On Sept 10, 1910, he was united in marriage with Cora Distler of Peoria and she, with her three daughters, Marjorie Hermann, Peoria, Lucile and Harriett, at home survive him. Beside the above named sisters and brother there are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are being held today at the Bouton Memorial home at 2:30 with the interment in the Dickerson cemetery near Dunlap.
