Funeral services for Robert Leslie Willis were held last Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Church of Christ with Gerald Cowan officiating. H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of services, with interment in Maple Cemetery.
He was born in Newbern, Tenn., on May 6, 1900, and died at the home in Caruthersville on Feb. 8, 1971 at the age of 70 years, 9 months, and 2 days. He was the son of the late Marion and Mandy Willis, and moved to Pemiscot County with his parents when he was five yrs. old, and attended schools in Pemiscot County.
On June 30, 1923 he was united in marriage to Miss Lydia M. Cole in Blytheville, Arkansas.
He was a former employee of Arl J. Dillman and Sons before retiring.
He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lydia Willis of Caruthersville, two sons Harold and Robert; of Houston, Texas and Grant Park, Illinois; five daughters, Mrs. Wavel Carter and Mrs. Claudia Back of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Deloris Barnard of Steele, Mrs. Norma Counce of the Wheeler AFB, Hawaii; Mrs. Phyllis Thompson of Lake Placid, Florida; two brothers Adrin Willis of Bradford, Tn.; and Alton Willis of Hammond, Indiana; 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchldren.
Pallbearers were Bob Jones, Howard Fike, Earl Hollis, Elmer Crockett, and Clyde Magers and Jack Malone.
