John Milton Huffman was born and raised in Virginia. He married his wife, Sarah Norris, in 1838 and they lived in Greene county until 1852. At that time they traveled by wagon for 6 weeks to take up residence in Montgomery county, Missouri. His daughter reports in his obituary that the county was a vast prairie teeming with deer when they arrived. An unfortunate incident during the Civil War happened at their house. He moved eastward 3 counties to a farm in northern St Louis county where he lived out his life farming with his family. Their 19 acre farm was adjacent to the M. E. Church they attended.
