Sarah Norris Huffman was probably born in Charlottesville in Albermarle county in Virginia. Later, she lived in Greene county, Virginia before traveling by wagon with her young family in 1852 to Montgomery county, Missouri. Here they farmed until the Civil War when they moved to a farm in northern St Louis county. Their farm was contiguous to the M. E. Church they attended.
Her husband's obituary notes in 1901 that they had 5 children (3 sons and 2 daughters), 33 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
