Lorenzo Workman, son of Mary Hatch of Springville, Utah and Lorenzo Workman, Sr., was born in Hatch, Utah Nov. 22, 1896. He had one brother Francis and a sister Elva, who passed away at an early age.
When he was one year old, a growth appeared on one of his eyes, causing much suffering. A doctor was summoned from Panguitch, Utah and after examination, he operated, but was unsuccessful and Mr. Workman lost the sight in one eye. At the age of five, he lost his father and went to live with his aunt, Rhoana Sawyer. His mother latter married the late James C. Burroughs of Springville, Utah. He attended school with the Levi Sawyer children in Hatch. When he reached the age of accountability, he became a member of the LDS church.
At the age of 16, and n the spring of 1913, Lorenzo found himself coming to Lovell with the Levi Sawyer family.
He was wed to Leah Asay on Sept 12, 1914 in Red Lodge, Mont. and to this union 11 children were born, Elva, Norris, Verland, Raymond, Morris, Tessie, Loran, Darrel, William, Angeline and Errol.
Lorenzo engaged in the pursuit of various kinds of work throughout his married life. He helped in the building of the Deaver canal for some time and at the Lovell glass factory, he was engaged as a glass blower's helper for three years. Then he was employed as a mechanic for the Great Western Sugar company for six or seven years. In 1931 he moved to the Five Springs ranch of Levi Sawyer and engaged in raising various crops. In 1935 he and his family moved to a farm southeast of Lovell, where he became engaged in farming fro himself. About 1940 he took up a homestead on the Big Horns 40 miles south of Tensleep.
In 1954 he and his wife moved to Thermopolis, where they resided with their oldest daughter Elva. While there Mr. Workman worked in the oil fields of that vicinity. In 1958 they moved back to the farm near Lovell where they remained until a devastating fire, for the second time, destroyed their home and all their personal effects Oct. 31, 1960. The first fire occurred three weeks after the loss of two children on Feb. 23 and Mar. 8, 1938 of whooping cough. They moved back to Thermopolis after the second fire to reside with their daughter.
Last fall Mr. Workman was stricken with a heart attack, which left him in a weakened condition. On Feb. 23 in the early morning, at the age of 64, he was returning home from the Lovell - Thermopolis basketball game. One block from his daughter's home, he was stricken with a second heart attack, which brought a close to his life.
Survivors include his wife Leah of Lovell, his mother, Marry Borrough of Springville, Utah; one full brother, Francis of Rifle, Utah; nine half brothers and sisters, Harace and Herbert Burrows, Zella Chadwick, Larin Burrows, Della Hales, Zettia Lund, Melva Monk, Harold an Vida Burrows; two daughters, Elva Anderson and Tessie Johnson of Thermopolis; five sons Morris of Casper, Raymond, Loran, Billy and Errol of Lovell; 34 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four children, Norris, Verland, Darrel and Angeline Leah.
