GEORGE DUTCHER TAKEN BY DEATH
Retired Root Township Farmer Dies Sunday Morning

George Walter Dutcher, 87, retired Root township farmer and prominent Adams county resident died Sunday morning at 7:30 o’clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Grace House, of near Monroeville.

The deceased had been making his home there for the past two weeks.

Except for one year in Missouri, he had spent his entire life in Adams county and was widely known. He had been actively engaged in farming until his age forced retirement.

He was born in Root township November 14, 1853, the son of Samuel and Catherine Dudleson-Dutcher. He was educated in the public school of Monmouth. In 1910 he transferred his membership from the Methodist church at Monmouth to the Mt. Pleasant Methodist church and in 1918, when he moved to Decatur, he joined the First Evangelical church here.

During his years in the church he served as trust, Sunday school superintendent, steward, class leader and teacher.

He was married to Nancy R. Glass April 8, 1875. She died April 22, 1901 [sic]. November 23, 1912 he was married to Mary Naomi Forney. She preceded him in death October 27, 1933.

Surviving are the following children by the first marriage: Charles of Fort Wayne; Mrs. Nellie Fisher of Decatur, and Mrs. House of Monroeville. One daughter is deceased. There are 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also surviving.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Fisher on Tenth street, and 2 o’clock at the Evangelical church, with Rev. George S. Lozier officiating. Burial will be in Decatur cemetery.

The body will be removed to the Fisher residence from the Black funeral home this evening and may be viewed there after 7 p.m. until time for the services.
