He volunteered for the Army during World War II and served in Germany. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war, he attended Mount Union College in Ohio where he met and married Janet Shively. He received BS and MS degrees in mathematics from UCLA and briefly considered a career in teaching, when he received a job offer from the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. He moved to Los Alamos in 1950, and remained here the rest of his life, working as a mathematician and statistician, raising a family, playing numerous sports, and hunting and fishing with friends. In Los Alamos, he was an active member of several civic organizations, including the B.P.O.E, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. He was involved as an early leader of the First United Methodist Church of Los Alamos and remained a life-long member.
Dante was known for his humor, his intelligence, his Compassion, his love of sports and sportsmanship, his enthusiastic guitar playing and singing, and the love he willingly gave to his family and friends.
