Henry was born June 4, 1804 at Guilford, Windham County, Vermont, to Daniel Boyden and Tabitha Goodnough. He married Orpha Marsh January 4, 1833 at Guilford, Windham County, Vermont. They had four children:

In 1849, they moved to Waukesha County, Wisconsin, then shortly after relocated to Waupaca County.
In March 1864, Henry enlisted in Company G, 21st Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. They marched south to Georgia. He was wounded in the Battle of Resaca in GA on May 13 or 14th, 1964. He died of disease in a field hospital and was first buried in Vinings, GA. Later the US government re-interred him in the Marietta National Cemetery.
