At age 2 he was living in Tångarne Vesteresg, Stenbrohult Sweden with his maternal grandparents and aunt Emma Kristina indicating he did not come to America with his parents and younger siblings. He died of diphtheria in Stenbrohult at age 8 on 9 Jan.1898. On his death record his parents are listed as Korporal Otto Eng and Jenny Andersdotter. "in Amerika".

Otto came to the United States to work with his brother.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed came to America and directly to Moline on April 5, 1893, and they have resided here ever since that time. Mr. and Mrs. Ed have five children, Mrs. Augusta Bors of Chicago, Carl Ed of Beardstown, Ill., Albert Ed of Rock Island, Mrs. Hildur Anderson of Detroit, Mich., and Clifford Ed, at home... Mr. Ed is a mason contractor and is still active in business/ Both Mr. and Mrs. Ed enjoy good health."

Otto was a mason contractor in Moline IL for about fifty-one years.


Otto Ed of Moline died age 82 at home after being stricken ill while cementing a porch two days earlier. Death was due to a heart attack.


Survivors: widow;

sons Clifford Ed and Albert Ed of Moline and Carl Ed of Beardstown;

daughters Mrs. Henry Burriss of Chicago and Mrs. Sigfried Anderson of Detroit MI.;

eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Otto was also an uncle of Carl Ed the Chicago Tribune cartoonist and former Moline resident.
