Eulogy
During the course of daily life, many people cross pathways. It is seldom however that we encounter an individual as dynamic, colorful and full of energy as Harold (Curly) Annis.
For those few of us who aren't aware, Curly passed away early on the morning of Sunday November 22nd at the young age of 77. The entire membership of LESC wishes to extend our heartfelt sorrow to Gladys, Dave and the remainder of Curly's family for your loss.
Everyone at LESC has a story to tell about Curly. If you've done any flying here at all, you've come across Curly. For those of our newer members at LESC, Curly was the driving force in the development of Skylark Airport after the floods, and also was one of the founding members (along with George and Anne Sedillo) of the current incarnation of LESC.
LESC owes its very existence to Curly and his tireless efforts to make LESC a successful soaring club. One of Curly's dreams was to have LESC achieve over 100 "glider guiders" on our club roster. I am happy to report that a few short months ago, LESC surpassed this total when our active and associate members were tallied. When told of this achievement, Curly simply smiled and stated it was time for beer 30. Curly, you did well our friend.
Friends, family and LESC members said good-bye to Curly on Saturday December 5th. An aviators wake was conducted at Skylark which included four biplanes flying in formation, Curly's 140 flying solo, three gliders on tow in formation and of course Curly's ashes being spread by Son Dave from the DC-3.
Curly will now always be a part of Skylark Airport, which will forever now be remembered as Curly's playground.
Several of Curly's friends and relatives got up to speak about Curly, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Following the ceremony at the field, attendees retired to the American Legion for a buffet in honor of Curly. We all swore we could hear him laughing in the corner.
Curly, you will be sorely missed by your friends at LESC. May you have billowing cu's, good lift and a perpetual tailwind......WTF,O & out. - Gary Bushouse
