WAYNE COUNTY, NEW YORK
From the 1824 Gazetteer of the State of New York, by Horatio Gates Spafford
WILLIAMSON, a Township of Ontario County, 20 miles N. a little E. of Canandaigua, and 200 miles from Albany; bounded N. on Lake Ontario, E. by Sodus and Lyons, S. by Palmyra, W. by Ontario.
From the 1860 Gazetteer of the State of New York, by J. H. French
WILLIAMSON(1) - was formed from Sodus, Feb. 20, 1802. Ontario was taken off in 1807, and Marion in 1825. It lies on the N. border of the co., W. of the center, Lake Ontario forming its N. boundary.
If Ruth Hopkins/Ross was born in 1780 it sounds like she would have been born in Sodus, instead of Williamson, as Williamson was not formed until 1802.

"... There is a birth of Elizabeth Hopkins on 22 Sep 1729 although her name is not listed as Mary. This is one of the pitfalls of having so many men in a family with the same name, confusion. I don't seem to be able to find a wife for Thomas who is the father of Joseph F. Joseph married Ruth Ross and their daughter Mary Ann Reynolds was the mother of Mary Minerva Vincent who became the wife of David Johnson Watkins. I am sure of the family from Joseph and Ruth to the present..."
