And what is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days; Sadie Faye Houskeeper Stephens died peacefully on Wednesday morning, July 1, 2009 in her little home where she lived for 55 years. Her dear daughter Marsha was watching over her and witnessed her last breath. Mom remained acute and was amazingly healthy to the very end; even able to go out for dinner with her family only days before her death. She resided at 1452 West Goodwin Avenue (1135 North) in the Rose Park neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of her death.

Faye was born on August 15, 1917 in Milburn, Sanpete County, Utah in the one room cabin built by her grandfather, where her father was also born.

Starting in her preschool years, mom worked hard on the family farm along with her five sisters and two brothers. Mom was a gifted student and graduated from North Sanpete High School at the age of 16.

After high school Faye heard of an opportunity to work as a nanny and, with only a few minutes to decide, hurriedly said good-bye to her beloved mother and sisters and caught a ride to Salt Lake.

She boarded for a time at the Beehive House while attending LDS Business College. Faye's mother tragically passed away in 1939 and Mom never stopped missing her. Faye received a secretarial certification and was working as a legal secretary when she met Neldon Dean Stephens.

After meeting and falling in love with Dad's entire family, Dean and Faye married in Salt Lake City on June 4, 1941 and solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mom's life was dedicated to Dad, their six children, and her God. She served in numerous Relief Society and Young Women leadership positions and as an ordinance worker at the Salt Lake Temple. She supported Dad while he served as Bishop of the Rose Park Fifth Ward and they served a mission at the Los Angeles Temple in 1978 and 1979.

Mom is predeceased by Dean; sisters Lenna (DeLoy) Ence, Nelda (Ralph) Ericksen, Faun (Rex) Staker, and Alene; brothers Max (Arvilla) and Boyd (Myrtle and Elaine); sister-in-law Ruth Nielsen Stephens; and brothers-in-law LaGrande, Earl, Charles, Glen, and Roger Stephens. She is survived by children Michael (Diane Kenngott), Dennis (Don Menke), Marsha (Hans Wischerath), Claudia (Bill Westerfield), Jeffrey (Carol Rowland), and Brent (Stephanie Hancock); grandchildren Chris (Ashley), Cara, Danielle (Greg), Andrew (Emily), Jeffrey, Julia (Jesse), Jordan, Jaimie, Jade, Bret, Hailie (Joshua), Cole, and Tanner; great-grandchildren Landen, Connor, Madison, Jacob, Emma, Rachel, Sadie and Judson; sister LaRae (Mack) McGovney; sisters-in-law Shirley (Spencer) Wheatley and VeNona Stephens; and brother-in-law Sterling (Rhea) Stephens.

Friends may visit with the family at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009 and on Monday, July 13, 2009 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. in the Rose Park Seventh Ward Building, 1155 North 1200 West, Salt Lake City.
