A dearly beloved character has gone from our midst in the passing of Mrs. Hannah Beaumont at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Hall, Tuesday, July 24, 1934, at the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 27 days.
Hannah Biewett, eldest child of John and Mary Biewett, was born in Elk Grove, Wisconsin January 27, 1850, and grew to womanhood in the place of her birth. She was united in marriage to Joseph Allen Beaumont, April 9, 1871 at Elk Grove, Wisconsin. Immediately after their marriage, they came in a covered wagon caravan of eleven families to Adams County, taking twelve days for the journey. The rested and worshiped each Lord's day as they traveled westward. Services were conducted by Rev. John Rosisto, a member of the party. They located on the present home where she has lived for sixty-three years. She knew the hardships of early pioneer life and made her contribution to the establishment of the community life which has enriched the lives of many through the years.
Mrs. Beaumont was a member of the Corning Methodist Church for a number of years, then transferred her membership to the Fairview Christian Church of which she was a member at the time of her death.
Mrs. Beaumont has been in poor health for a number of years and has been confined to her bed since March 25, 1933. She has spent twenty-three years in the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Emma Hall. During her long illness every kindness possible has been showered upon her by home folks and the hundreds in the community who have learned to love her during her long and useful life. During her invalid years, she spent much time in handwork and many in the community have articles which she has given them, and she found delight in this form of service and helpfulness, feeling that this was all she could do and it was her greatest desire to be helpful.
Mrs. Beaumont through the years developed a beautiful Christian character, a most priceless possession. She has been a wonderful mother by presence and example and a good neighbor.
She leaves to mourn her departure her four children, Mrs. Mary Ann Cramer of Nodaway, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie May Murdock of Corning, Iowa; William Allen Beaumont of Milestone, Canada; and Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Hall of Corning, Iowa; five brothers, Richard Biewett of Eugene, Oregon; George Biewett of Hardy, Iowa, Henry and Charles Biewett of Kingsley, Iowa, and Albert Biewett of Windom, Minnesota; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. One daughter, Marie Ellen, died in infancy and her companion passed away January 18, 1911.
The funeral services was held at the Methodist Church Thursday afternoon, July 26, 1934 at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Arthur M. Eastman. The body was laid to rest in the Prairie Rose Cemetery.
