Aunt Thelma was born one of six children on a farm in Dixon County, NE. She worked at home and was never an outdoors person.

In her late teens, she decided she wanted to go to California. The only way her father would allow it is if her older sister, Florence, went also. Six weeks later, Thel returned and in May 1939 married Jens N. Kvols. Both s he and her sister had dated him and his brother. Mom returned to stand up with her. She also returned to California where she met my father.

Jens and Thel raised four children. Their son contined to farm their home place after the couple moved to a near-by farm and then into Laurel where they lived for most of their lives.

In the winters, they would move to Mesa, AZ to live out of the harsh Nebraska weather. Jens became actively involved in his church and served as a minister in the Phillipines. Sometimes Thel or one of the children would accompany him, but it was a diffcult area and her health wasn't always good.

In fact, as her daughters were growing up, they were a big help to their mother in the house. She suffered from high blood pressure and other ailments, and caught a bad case of flu in 2007. She never quite recovered, even though they went to AZ that winter. Her husband was with her much of the time up until her death.
