Prominent Citizens Die Past Week.
DEATH OF MR. M. T. BAILEY
The Plaindealer regrets to chronicle the death of Mr. M. T. Bailey who died at his home here last Saturday morning after an illness , lasting a good long time. Some nine months ago he suffered a stroke and from that time never showed much improvement, being confined to his bed for the past three months in a critical condition. Mr. Bailey was a native of Alabama but came to this section many years ago and for a longtime resided east of town where he was engaged in farming. In later years he moved to Ackerman where he has since resided being engaged in farming, carpenter work and contracting. He was 72 years of age the day of his death, May 20th, and had lived a splendid and upright life and reared a large family. He was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and was a regular attendant upon all services until his health failed and he was not permitted to do so.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, same being in charge of Rev H M. Whitten of this place assisted by Rev. J. R. Tackett and Rev. T. B. Thrower, pastors of the other churches here, where a large attendance of relatives and friends gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to his memory. Interment took place at Enon Cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Wells Bailey and the following children, to wit: Mrs. A. D. Mabus, Mrs. Edna Nason, and Messrs. Joe and Ishmael Bailey, of Ackerman; Mrs. Jennie Stroud, Sturgis; Zack Bailey, Gulfport; Sam M. Bailey, of Jackson and Grady Bailey, Mobile, Ala.
