Samuel M. Bailey, 87, of 3510 Kings Highway, died Jan. 26, 1987 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. Services were 2 p.m. today at Wright& Ferguson Funeral home chapel with burial at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bailey, a native of Ackerman, was the founder of Jackson Stone Company. He was the son of the late Milton Thomas and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wells Bailey. He was educated in Ackerman schools and Mississippi State University. He came to Jackson in 1923 as an employee of a local stone company and in 1930 became founder and president of Jackson Stone Company.
He was active in civic and religious organizations, serving as a deacon of the First Baptist Church. He was past president of the Central Lions Club, chairman of a Red Cross fund-raising drive and a founder of the Leavell Woods Community Foundation.

He was director of the Jackson-Hinds Bank, a member of the Photographic Society, the American Camellia Society, and director of the National Concrete Masonry Association and the Southeaster Concrete Masonry Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bess Misterfeldt Bailey; daughter, Mrs. John R.(Thelma) Akers of Meridian and Mrs. James W. (Bethany) Overton of Natchez; son Edward Byrd of Tupelo; twelve grandchildren and sever great-grandchildren.

**NOTE***
Samuel only had one biological child who was Thelma. The two other children mentioned in the obit are his step children.
