Mrs. Thorpe was born Irma Irene Bigelow, January 4, 1924 in Fayette County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Lulu (Tremaine) Bigelow. Irma married Robert Thorpe February 21, 1941 in Davenport. They resided in Muscatine where Irma worked as a cook in the grade school of the Muscatine School System. They moved to DeWitt, in 1977. Bob preceded Irma in death in August of 2003.
She was a former member and president of the Ladies Izzac Walton Leage and was also a former member of the DeWitt Hospital Auxiliary. Irma enjoyed sewing and camping.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and David Kneer, McGregor, Iowa; grandchildren, Lori (Richard) Olson and Jill Kneer; two great-grandchildren, Josh and Kelli Olson; a brother, Kenneth Bigelow, Cedar Falls; sisters, Margie Maisenbach, Eurecka, California, and Clara Mae Harrison, Lovilla, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, Bob, Irma was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Kelli and a brother, Lyle.
