EDWARD A PHELPS - Edward A Phelps, 54, a resident of the Bend area for the past 10 years died at St Charles Memorial Hospital last night after a long illness.
Services will be announced later by Niswonger - Reynolds Funeral Home.
A Native of Hood River, Mr Phelps was born there Feb 2, 1910, and for the past decade has made his home at Route 2, Box 9B, Bend.
He is survived by his widow, Irene Phelps, of the family home, and children; Rene Phelps, Bend; Micheal Phelps and Rhonda Phelps, Bend; John E Phelps, Hood River; Dennis Mockler, Grand Forks, N.D., and Terry Mockler, Bend.
Mr Phelps also is survived by brothers and sisters; Margaret Malaer, Beaverton; Norris Delore, Coos Bay; Harry Phelps, Condon; Edna French, Lakewood, California; Elmer D Phelps, Bridgeport, California; and Ruth McDonald, Kent, Washington, Addis Phelps, Hood River, a stepmother, also survives. Edward “Bud” ran a successful gas station in Hood River. In 1951 after 20 years of marriage him and Viola (Puutio) Phelps separated, they had one son John. Bud left Hood River and moved to Bend, Oregon. He remarried Irene (Pickerell) Mockler a widow with two children. Bud and Irene would have three children Rene, Michael, and Rhonda.
Edward Phelps as a young child was kicked in the right side of his head by a horse. This would leave him with a terrible scar and a life time of severe headaches and he went through two brain operations. He got brain cancer in 1964 and would not survive his third brain operation.
He was just 54 years old, his son John brought him back to Hood River to be buried by family.
