Calvin Earl Seeley, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on June 29, 2009. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Calvin was born June 16, 1926, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, to Justus Earl and Rhoda Nelson Seeley. He was the fourth of five children. In 1930, his family moved to Castledale, Utah, and then in 1939, to Ogden, Utah. Calvin attended Ogden High School. On June 10, 1944, Calvin proudly enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific on the troop transport, the USS Bosque. He was involved in the Phillipine Liberation, the invasion of Okinawa, and the first seaborne landing of Japan at Yokahama.
He observed the signing of the peace treaty on September 2, 1945 in Yokahama Harbor.
On November 29, 1946,
Calvin married the love of his life, Dorothy Jensen, of Elsinore, Utah. They attended the University of Utah and he graduated with a degree in Engineering in 1951. They then moved to Long Beach, California where Calvin worked for North American Rockwell Aviation for 30 years, combining his love of aircraft with his career. He was instrumental in the development of the guidance system for the Polaris submarine.
Calvin was devoted to his wife and family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy. To be involved in the their lives, to serve and support them in all they did, was the focus of his life.
His life-long interests included golfing, playing bridge, reading, hunting and camping. Traveling was a passion he shared with his wife and they had many wonderful trips throughout the world. Calvin was an excellent carpenter. He was happiest when he was building something for his family. He built the family cabin at Panguitch Lake and their previous home in Elsinore.
Calvin was kind and generous to all who knew him. His love was unconditional and he had compassion for anyone in need. Calvin made a friend of all who knew him. He was respected for his integrity and patriotism. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This wonderful man will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; three daughters, Susan (Greg) Pack, Nanette Seeley, and Necia (Jon) Vona; grandchildren, Matthew (Julie) Thurston, Amy (Michael) Moe, Christina Powers, Justus (Hailey) Loyet, Rebecca and Nicole Loyet, Edward, Alyssa and Jacob Vona; five great-grandchildren, Ryan and Grace Thurston, Madeline Moe, Lily and Paisley Loyet; sister, Winona Thorderson; sister-in-law Necia Horgesheimer and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Rita Allred, Madine Anderson and Erleen Agrifolio; and brother-in-law, Jerry Horgesheimer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, 50 S. 100W., in Richfield.
