John Walter Montgomery was born in Greenveille,, Mo., August 19, 1886 and departed this life October 10, 1945 making his stay 58 years, one month and 21 days upon this earth. He came to this county when a young man and was united in marriage to Miss Velma Treece of Caruthersville in 1911 and to this union were born eight children, Mrs Claytie Barnes and Mrs. Mary Jarbo both of Caruthersville, Mrs. Lester Sherwood of Steele, Mrs. Fern Wilson of Wardell, Paul of Caruthersville S2-c, John Jr. and Charlie, all of Hayti.
In addition to his wife and children he is survived by seven grandchildren, two brothers, Rev. H.D. Montgomery of Salem, Mo. and Claude of Glenallen, Mo., two sisters, Mrs. Osa Bennett and Mrs. Clara Treece of Caruthersville, also three half-brothers and two half-sisters.
He was converted early in life and later united with the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Hayti and was a loyal member to his church and family.
About forty years of his life was spent in Pemiscot county and he was engaged in farming all his life.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon of last week at 3:30 o'clock at the Pentecostal church in Hayti, with the Rev. A.M. Laurie officiating, assisted by Rev. Downs of Pascola. Interment was in Maple cemetery here.
