Pioneer Succumbs After An Illness of Two Months
August Breadow, 85-year-old pioneer of Presque Ilse county, passed away Friday morning June 26th, at the home of his son, Gustav Breadow, after having been failing in helath for the past two months.
The deceased was born in Middle Port, New York, in 1851, and spent his boyhood there. In 1874 he married Miss Minnie Winter and together they came to Michigan and settled on a fram in Rogers township where they lived until twelve years ago. Several years ago he sold his farm to the Michigan Limestone and Chemical Co., Mrs. Breadow preceded her husband in death, having died in 1932.
Mr. Breadow was the founder of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of section 12 at Hagensville, of which he was a member until his death. He was extremely active in public affairs and was well known thru-out the county.
Survivng Mr. Breadow are four daughter and two sons, Mrs. Frank Pretty, Mrs. William Reisner, Mrs. William Hagen and Gustave and George Breadow, all of Rogers City, and Mrs. William J. Steele of Alpena.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock from the Gustav Breadow home an at 2 o'clock from the Hagensville Church, with burial being made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Karl Schmidt officiated. The pallbeareers were Alfred Demerest, William and August Erkfitz, Harry Kortman, Carl Hopp and Otto Maerz.
Relatives and friends from out-of-town who were here for the funeral were Mrs. William Breadow, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Klee and Howard and Edward Breadow, all of Flint.
