Civil War Veteran.

Justice resided in Plato, IL at the time of his enlistment on August 17, 1861 as a Private. On September 23, 1861 he mustered into "Smith's" Co. IL Independent Cavalry and he was discharged for disability on July 18, 1862. According to published sources he served in Company K; however, his tombstone is stating he was in Company B.

Justice received his disability because he received a saber cut.

Grand Army of the Republic, Strawberry Point Post No. 259. J. J. Stringer charter member, held office of junior vice commander.

Strawberry Point Anti-Horse Thief Association of Strawberry Point, Iowa. Member as of January 1st 1903 and 1906.

Married Harriet Marie Joy 11 Feb 1863 in St. Charles, IL. Father of 12 children. Divorced 10 Oct 1895.
