Percy worked for the Elgin Watch Works in Elgin, Illinois for 50 years. He started in the mailroom and worked his way up the latter within the company to become a Vice President. He was mentioned many times in the company's publication called The Watch Word and it was directed to those who worked for the company to show that with dedication and a good work ethic that they too could take on more responsibility and become fulfilled.

The company has since been sold and the manufacturing plant in Elgin has been demolished.
